Obama applauds Hawaii minimum wage hike

By Associated Press

LAST UPDATED: 10:12 a.m. HST, Apr 30, 2014

President Barack Obama is commending Hawaii lawmakers for approving the state's minimum wage to $10.10.

The president says in a statement released Wednesday that Republicans in Congress should follow Hawaii's lead and raise the minimum wage for 28 million Americans. The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on the issue Wednesday.

The Hawaii measure was approved by legislators Tuesday. Gov. Neil Abercrombie has indicated he will likely approve it.

The increase from $7.25 is the first since 2007 and would be phased in over four years.

Obama says Hawaii joins a large coalition of states, counties, cities and businesses to give individuals a raise.

Obama says it's time "for Republicans in Congress to listen to the majority of Americans who say it's time to give America a raise."

Unfortunately, the layoffs have already started at: Barclays, UBS, Dell, Sonly, B of A, Wells Fargo, Toyata, General Dynamics, and Seimens to name a few. Even without the minimum wage increase, thousands of middle income jobs are being eliminated. Consumer confidence is at a 15 year low with people between 35-65 being more concerened about retirement savings. Retail job growth is dismal because the typical American consumer is tapped out.

This is exactly what Obama's back side smoochers in the legislature hoped would happen by increasing the minimum wage to exactly $10.10 - praise from the Almighty.

How about reducing the size of government and stop taking lavish trips (including Michelle's separate "working" vacations) and give all American's a raise by reducing taxes.

Great timing! When is the next election coming around? Sure, this will help those on minimum wage - but the result will be increased prices passed on to the consumer and layoffs. Wait and watch the trickle up and down and all around effect on this one! And guess what? More taxes reaped by the state, feds and IRS, and every other tax that is income dependent for rate setting. Companies will want to maintain their profit margin, especially the national chains. The only way to maintain that will be layoffs and price increases. The consumer will adjust. They will forego certain purchases from certain places. Still, consumers will get hit with an unavoidable cost.......unemployment, homeless, welfare......etc. No more Big Macs! I'm going to the food truck.....most of whom are owner operators who work for sweat equity.

Of course he does!

Demoncrats are gentrifying all of Hawai'i where the rich MOVE IN and the working poor MOVE OUT.

Obama MUST de-occupy the Hawaiian Kingdom immediately so that Hawaiians and NON-Hawaiians are free from his slavery.

2% of the workforce, it's been reported, earn the minimum wage, which has been unchanged since 2007. The new minimum will be phased in over 4 years. If you do the math, it translates to a whopping $.20 raise per year. Lifting the poor will do us no harm and will do good in many ways.

My mom barely speaks a word in english but knowing she needs to have a job to survive, would ask some friends and friends of friends until she found a job. She worked as a housekeeper and was paid around $12-14 an hour. These people who are getting paid $7.25 are lazy and pathetic. If you don't like your pay, find someone who will pay you more. Don't complain...because my mom never did since she know little english.
