A Mililani man was found guilty Friday of firing a shotgun into a house after he caught his girlfriend in bed with another man.
Jason Kila, 45, was facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary and five firearms-related charges.
After deliberating less than three hours, a Circuit Court jury found Kila guilty of the lesser crimes of first-degree reckless endangering, first-degree criminal trespassing, and three firearms charges. Kila faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced July 22, deputy public defender Edward Aquino said.
“He’s a gentleman,” Aquino said outside of court. “He accepts the verdict.”
Deputy Prosecutor Thalia Murphy argued that Kila tried to enter another man’s home in Mililani while brandishing a revolver on Jan 23, 2013. After the other man wrestled the gun away, Kila went back to his truck and got a shotgun that he fired into the home.
Kila’s defense argued that the other man had threatened Kila the day before and Kila went with protection to the house to get his girlfriend back and stop her from dealing drugs. Aquino said he doesn’t know if Kila and the woman are still dating.
