A strong earthquake struck off the coast of Panama Monday evening but does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, officials at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The magnitude-6.8 temblor was recorded at 8:35 p.m. Hawaii time and was centered 65 miles southeast of Punta de Burica, Panama at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No injuries were immediately reported.
