Surfer appears in court on attempted murder charge

By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 01:33 p.m. HST, May 19, 2014

A 30-year-old woman charged with attempted murder for allegedly striking a 73-year-old woman with her car in Waikiki appeared at District Court Monday.

Jill Anjuli Hansen's preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday. District Judge James Ashford confirmed her bail at $1 million.

Hansen was charged Friday with second-degree attempted murder. At about 11:40 a.m. on May 14, Hansen followed the victim through the security gate of the Diamond Head Apartments parking lot and intentionally hit the woman with her car as the woman exited the vehicle, according to Honolulu police.

A witness broke one of Hansen's car windows with a crowbar to get her attention and stop her from hitting the 73-year-old woman again.

Paramedics treated the victim for a serious head wound and took her to a hospital.

Police said Hansen and the victim do not know each other and there was no apparent motive.

Hansen lists her occupation as a professional surfer on her Facebook page.

Being mentally ill is one thing, but she's just a mean self centered person. Oh, and highly delusional. I'm sure clean-living surfers dont appreciate being lumped in with her.

"Jill Hansen appears with her public defender, Bryant Zane, in the Honolulu District Courtroom of Judge James H. Ashford on Monday, May 19, 2014 in Honolulu." Don't think she has the financial backing if she has a public defender.

So? Rich = bad, poor = good? No. She is known in the surf world as a nut case. She is one troubled woman. She does not represent Kahala residents, surfers, Caucasians...only herself.

If the bystander had not intervened on behalf of the old lady, this would most likely be a murder case. A mental evaluation is in order, as well as a stint at Anger Management university, add a law suit to be filed by the victim, and then there is the small matter of a lengthy prison sentence for attempted murder. I'm guessing the road rage wasn't worth it.

What good would a lawsuit do? She has zero assets, otherwise she couldn't get a public defender. You can sue her for all you want.......you will still get nada.

Your right, no clear assets for now, but it could have an impact on her future earnings, or let's say, in the unlikely event she wins the lottery.

Easy to intensely dislike such an aggressive, self praising and pretentious person. That she is severely mentally ill does not mollify these feelings much. But she is, indeed, nuttier than a fruitcake. And, hopefully, she will receive the care she needs (ie be locked up away from society for, hopefully, the rest of her life).
