Two people detained by their victims during a botched home invasion robbery on Date Street have been charged with robbery and kidnapping, police said.
Meleana Toilolo, 25, and Solomon Kaleimamahu, 35, both face seven counts each of first-degree robbery and kidnapping. They were charged Sunday. Bail was set at $20,000 for Toilolo, of Kaimuki, and $40,000 for Kaleimamahu, who did not give police an address.
The two remained at Oahu Community Correctional Center on Tuesday unable to post bail.
Police said the pair entered the home about 1 a.m. Saturday and demanded property. Seven people inside detained the duo until officers arrived, police said.
Mike Werdien, 23, who lives at the 2620 Date St. home across from Laau Street, said the pair covered their faces with bandannas and carried a bat and a piece of lumber.
He and his friends initially thought the intrusion was a joke, but eventually pounced on the robbers and stripped them of their weapons.
He said no one in the house knew the suspects.
“At the end, when we were holding them down, they were like, ‘Just let us go. We got the wrong house,” he said on Saturday. “We were kind of dumbfounded.”
