On the final day of the spring signing period, the Hawaii men's basketball team picked up a much-needed addition to its frontcourt.

UH signed 6-foot-7, 240-pound Sammis Reyes of North Broward Prep (Fla.) on Wednesday.

Reyes, who has experience with Chile's U-17 national team, is the third member of UH's 2014-15 signing class. Two of those players (along with guard Isaac Fleming) hail from East Coast prep schools.

Reyes averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists per game in helping his team from Coconut Grove, Fla., to the regional semifinals.

Among others interested in Reyes was fellow Big West school Long Beach State. Reyes recently took an official visit to the Manoa campus.

"We are thrilled to have Sammis join our team next year," UH coach Gib Arnold said in a release. "He was our number one big-man recruit and we felt it was important to wait until the last day to get him. He is a beast. ... He can bench press 325 pounds and play multiple positions. He has the strength of a power forward and the skills and athleticism of a guard. He really blew up during the spring basketball events. He had numerous offers and beating out the likes of Wichita State, Ohio and conference rival Long Beach State was not easy. Obviously we are thrilled he chose to be a Rainbow Warrior. Hawaii basketball fans will love watching Sammis' ferocious dunks in the Stan Sheriff Arena soon."

With the freshman Reyes, UH's frontcourt projects as 6-8 junior Isaac Fotu, 6-10 sophomore Stefan Jovanovic, 6-10 sophomore Stefan Jankovic and 6-8 sophomore Mike Thomas.

6'9 spidermen don't exist. and if they did, they wouldn't be coming to UH. Sammis is a beast that loves to dunk. not the ideal big man but UH fans are going to love Sammis Reyes.
