Hannemann wants to bring back Superferry

Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is saying that if he's elected as the next governor of Hawaii he will make it a priority to bring back the Superferry.

Hannemann said Wednesday that it will not be easy. But he says he will take a different approach than his predecessors.

The inter-island ferry ran from 2007 until 2009 and was plagued with problems. Protesters concerned about pollution and traffic even prevented the ferry from docking on Kauai.

Hannemann says the biggest mistake made last time was the decision to operate the ferry without completing an environmental impact report. He would ensure that an environmental report would be done. Hannemann would hold community meetings with prior opponents. He says community members have been asking for a return of the ferry.

I'd love to see a Super Ferry. Ideally heading away from shore with Mufi tied on to long rope. Holding hands with Abercrombie.

No, really, the idea of the Super Ferry is great; we need it.

The EIS was for the RORO ramp interface but the second vessel had its own ramp and did not require an EIS, so if we do actually get Super Ferries back, they should have on-board ramps and will not require an EIS.

WHY???? So a handful of dope smokers can stand in the way and shut it down again. Waste not one dollar unless your ready to go the fight.

Poor judgement, that should not be a priority. Our traffic, our infrastructure, homelessness, etc. are more important than a ferry that went the way of his boat.

Shouldn't let Kauai people get off the plane on Oahu. Plus I do t think anyone will want to build a new SF with all the problems there were before and millions lost.

If Mufi gets a hold of the Superferry, he'll insist they make it out of concrete and run from some developer's property to a mall. Then the price will double and we'll find out he didn't budget for seats.

No thanks Mr Hannemann, we can't afford you or your friends.

Poor Mufi. I thought we were rid of him for good, but he's back. And with the super ferry as his platform.

I'm for the "Super Ferry" coming back--bring her on. I can't understand why pollution and traffic became a real big issue with some--is it because small and big businesses are the real people who don't want this. I hope it comes back, because yes, the public can save money when traveling to the outer islands--don't have to pick up a rent-a-car, will be able to purchase vehicles from other islands, don't have to send things over to relatives via hawaiian airlines, Matson and everybody else out there.

Now that Mufi changed parties he is for the super ferry. The democrats, Hawaiian air and Young brothers helped shut it down for profits. Only Lingle helped it along. It was going to be a shot in the arm for our economy in the long run but they didn't pay the democrats to do business in our state. Too Bad for all of us.

The 40 foot containers that were refrigerated took all young brothers profits. They were the cream. It also was how Aloha Airlines and HA MADE MONEY WITH CARGO FLIGHTS. It was never the passengers or the cars. That is why it failed, because the democrats were going to lose a lot of campaign $$ from these guys. Turns out Aloha and young brothers were bought out by Seattle guys anyway.

I would love to have the Super Ferry return. I rode on it last time and took my car, also, and it was so convenient and practical. Next time those stupid protesters paddle out in their surfboards to protest, I say "run their !@#$ over." A small minority prevented another mode of transportation to the neighbor isle which was uncalled for although Lingle's intentions were good expediting the ferry process devoid of a e.i. statement, this time, DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.

The Super Ferry was great. I rode it a bunch of times----sad to see it go, due to the greed of YB & Hawaiian Air and the environmentalists along with the rich import Haoles who overblew their so called justification / reasoning. The Super Ferry was nor worse than YB as far as the environment theory s concerned.

One of my friends rode it & barfed the whole trip. It's definitely not for everyone, and if Mufi got a shot at it, it would cost 100x more than originally planned, and only go to Molokai.
