6 families displaced by Ewa Beach townhouse fire

At least six families living in two-story Ewa Beach townhouse units were displaced Friday afternoon after a three-alarm fire rapidly spread between two buildings, said Fire department spokesman David Jenkins.

Forty-five firefighters from 11 companies brought the 1:24 p.m. alarm fire under control at 2:11 p.m.

The fire damaged a total of nine units in Buildings T and U of Ewa Apartments at Kulana, located at 91-613 Kuilioloa Place, which are condominium apartments.

A 26-year-old man received a cut to his hand when he tried to break windows to warn possible occupants remaining inside. He was treated and transported to a hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel.

No other injuries were reported.

Occupants evacuated before firefighters arrived at 1:29 p.m.

The origin, cause and damage estimates were still pending late Friday afternoon.

Red Cross is assisting at least 19 people.
