'Best weather' campus ranking ignores most isle colleges

Only two Hawaii campuses are among the 25 colleges with the best weather, according to a ranking by the service Best College Reviews.

The University of Hawaii at Manoa ranks at No. 5, while Brigham Young University in Laie is No. 13.

None of the other college campuses around Hawaii are mentioned, though the list was created based on data gathered from the National Weather Service.

Statewise, California has seven schools on the list, Florida has five, Texas has four, Arizona has two schools, and Georgia, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Puerto Rico each have one school listed.

"Higher education is stressful enough, especially in today's expensive educational environment, that one could argue students may get more bang for their buck in a relaxing climate," said list creator James Arney.

"The trend lately in higher education has been to pamper undergraduates with lavish dorms and recreation centers, but these 25 schools all boast amazing weather, which is something colleges either have or they don't. No amount of money can buy a frigid northeastern campus or a Malibu climate like Pepperdine's." Pepperdine is at No. 1 on the rank-order listing presented on the organization's website.

You figure with all those errors in that report on UH Manoa, somebody would have told them to fix it by now.
