Bail revoked for surfer charged with attempted murder

A state judge revoked bail Monday morning for a self-proclaimed professional surfer accused of running over an elderly  woman and attempting to steal the woman's car.

Jill Hansen, 30, of Manoa, is awaiting trial for attempted murder, entering and attempting to drive the woman's car. Her bail was $1 million.

Hansen was supposed to appear in court June 16 on the prosecutor's request to deny her bail but she refused to be transported to court from Oahu Community Correctional Center.

Circuit Judge Edward Kubo, Jr., rescheduled the hearing for Monday but ordered Hansen held in custody without bail in the meantime.

Honolulu police said Hansen drove into and hit 73-year-old Elizabeth Conklin in a Waikiki apartment building parking garage after Conklin exited her own car on May 14. They said Hansen attempted to hit Conklin two more times then attempted drive off in Conklin's car.

Conklin survived but suffered head and other injuries.

Hansen is also awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting a fellow surfer on April 18.

Just look at her, obvious mental illness. Just watch, her defense will be temporary insanity.

People have been asking the SAd to stop using 'surfer' in the article titles since this story broke, but they refuse. Guess it's just click bait.

Please stop describing this lunatic as a "surfer." She was driving a car when she tried to kill that woman, call her a driver.

Jill Hansen's mother is a well respected teacher at a local school. My sister is a teacher with her on the same campus. Jill's mother has been trying desperately to get her professional help for her mental illness...but because she is an adult it has been an uphill battle trying to get her the help she needs - especially since Jill doesn't think she is ill. My thoughts go out to the victim and Jill's family.

Apparently the mental health folks in Hawaii haven't figured out that if you are seriously mentally ill, then you are not capable of making rational decisions. So please, stop asking the sick person if they want or need help. They aren't capable of giving a rational answer.

Why not call her a surfer? That's what she did. If she was a teacher, boxer, or firefighter the title would say that as well.
