Man arrested for attempted murder after swinging weapon

A man was arrested for attempted murder after he brandished a weapon toward a group of people during fight in Kalihi early Saturday morning.

The 22-year-old man, who has a Waianae address, allegedly swung the weapon toward a 59-year-old man, police said.  The suspect was arrested at 1:05 a.m. near Lanakila Ave. and N. School Street. 

He was arrested for second-degree attempted murder, police said.

How does this guy get arrested for second degree attempted murder while the guy in Waianae stabs the guy multiple times and gets charged with assault. Is assault a more serious crime than murder in this state?
