Honolulu police blocked off a beach access at the Diamond Head end of Kalakaua Ave. as they investigated the discovery of a body in the water Wednesday morning.

The Medical Examiner’s Office identified a man who died in shallow water near the Diamond Head area of Waikiki Beach last month as Charles Muno, 43, of Edina, Minn.

At 6:07 a.m. on June 18, a surfer found Muno in two feet of water at Waikiki Beach fronting a residential area at the end of Kalakaua Avenue.

Paramedics responded and he was pronounced dead at 6:19 a.m.

The cause of Muno’s death has been deferred pending further investigation.
