DANA POINT, Calif. >> Louis Brown Jr., the father of O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, has died at his Southern California home, a family attorney said Saturday. He was 90.

Brown died Thursday in the seaside community of Dana Point, attorney Natasha Roit said in an email. A statement issued on behalf of the family did not include a cause of death.

Brown was the father of Nicole Brown Simpson, who was slashed to death in 1994 with friend Ronald Goldman. Her former husband, a football great, was acquitted of murder in the high-profile murder trial, which was televised live.

A civil jury found O.J. Simpson liable in 1997 for the deaths of his ex-wife and Goldman, providing a moral victory for grieving relatives who thought he got away with murder.

Louis Brown, who sat stone still as the verdict was announced, stood and smiled afterward. “I want to get outside and scream,” he told the AP at the time. The jury awarded $ 33.5 million in damages.

Brown and his daughter Denise founded a charitable foundation in his slain daughter’s name to raise awareness of domestic violence and increase funding for assistance.

Brown served in World War II as a pilot and married in Switzerland after the war, the statement said.

His wife, Judi, and children were with him when he died. “It was his wish to remain in his home with those he loved,” Roit said.
