Hawaii island police say they’ve charged the man in the shooting of a fellow tenant at his South Kona home.

Monte Moreau, 44, of Honaunau was charged with attempted murder Saturday after being taken into custody Thursday night.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a rented house in the 83-5300 block of Highway 11 in Honaunau, according to the Hawaii Police Department.  Officers arrived there to find a 52-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and they arrested Moreau — another tenant — at the scene, according to a police release.

The victim remains in critical but stable condition at Kona Community Hospital, while Moreau remains at the Kona police cell block as police detectives continue to investigate the incident, the release stated.
