By Erika Engle

LAST UPDATED: 04:51 a.m. HST, Jul 09, 2014

To promote its new iPad ordering app, Domino's Pizza is offering a chance to win free pizza for a year, but Hawaii and Alaska residents do not qualify.

"We wanted to celebrate the launch of Domino's most beautiful ordering app and encourage customers who haven't tried it yet to order in a whole new way," said Chris Brandon, Domino's Pizza spokesperson, in a statement.

Customers who order using the app can enter to win once per day. Once a week, the company will choose a winner to receive free pizza for a year, which will be awarded in the form of five, $100 Domino's gift cards.

The promotion extends only to residents of the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C.

Since Domino's doesn't consider Hawaii a state, we should all boycott Domino's.

You should support a wholly locally-owned and operated pizza place instead. Skip the crappy franchise pizza and buy local.

You must be rich because I ordered pizza at a "local" pizzeria here and got the most expensive pizza I have ever bought and it wasn't even worth the price.

"Local" pizza restaurants here are even worse than the "local" franchises. Their prices are outrageous. I went to a "local" pizza restaurant and purchased the most expensive pizza that I have ever bought and it was not even worth the hefty price tag. Support these "local" businesses when they are ripping you off? I don't think so.

Does anyone really like to eat that cardboard with cheese that Domino's calls a pizza?

This new app is like their pizza. Non-existent in Hawaii.

I refuse to patronize ANY business that treats Hawai'i residents differently than mainland 48 residents on issues such as free shipping, promotions, and product availability. Vote with your dollars, people!

But then you could say that of almost all the "local" franchises here who charge "local" residents extra due to the "cost of doing business in Hawaii" excuse.

justin_thyme--please Google the Jones Act. The US Government has rendered a tariff on the citizens of Hawaii--in your statement--you will not do business with ANY US company from the mainland??? Because Hawaii IS treated differently with that TAX!!! Write to your Congressional delegation and ask why they support it!!

Some people on the mainland don't know that Hawaii is part of the United States. I was going to order something from the mainland and they wanted to charge me international shipping rates!

Papa John's makes a better pizza, and they have them all on sale for only $10 on Wednesdays. I'll stick with Papa John's. Domino's isn't all that great.

Agree, I'll never turn down a pizza and I'm not a very picky eater but honestly the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Domino's crust is something like cardboard. I personally prefer Pizza Hut. To each his own I guess on taste. However, as a matter of principle, it is upsetting when a company apparently finds it well worth doing business in Hawaii (whether directly or via franchisees) but somehow doesn't find it well worth including Hawaii residents in promotions. C'mon, if you are charging more for pizza here to begin with, you can certainly meet your Hawaii customers halfway on the promotions side, especially given the very remote odds that someone from Hawaii might win to begin with. There are even insurance policies you can take out to cover that sort of "disastrous" outcome. And what are we talking about, a couple of thousand dollars more at most out of your promotions budget IF the winner happens to be from Hawaii? I imagine the cost can be calculated against the potential odds in advance. I don't get the impression they are offering the winner a magic "all you can eat" pizza pass for a year (where you can be bringing home boxes and boxes of pizzas home every day) but something a bit more structured like perhaps 52 weeks worth of pizzas. Say, a Hawaii pizza costs even as much as $20 more than a comparable "mainland" pizza. That is a little over $1,000, something even some Vegas gamblers might be willing to wager on a fun bet. And the odds in Vegas are much worse for gamblers than the risk Domino's would take by opening up this contest to Hawaii residents. For a large corporation like Domino's, this brings new meaning to the word tightwad.

This doesn't make sense. If Domino's is giving away $500 in gift cards it really shouldn't make a difference what State it is awarded in. It's not like you are going to shipping pizzas to Hawaii or Alaska. Strange.

I often get the same response when I try to use one of the fast food coupons that I find in the Advertiser - that the places here in Hawaii do not honor those coupons. Like others have said "boycott Domino's".
