POSTED:

A Honolulu paramedic was in serious condition and two other emergency crew members were hurt when an ambulance found itself in a one-vehicle collision Saturday at the Atkinson Drive ramp of the Ala Moana Shopping Center.

The 10:30 a.m. accident occurred as the ambulance was on a medical call, said Shayne Enright, spokesperson for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

The driver, a veteran paramedic, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, while a second paramedic suffered serious injuries and was also transported. In addition, a firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to an emergency room, Enright said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, she said.

Looks like he went down a ramp but the vehicle was higher than the height clearance.

Driver was a vet too, so you figure they would know what ramps they can take and which ones to avoid. Maybe they need to install a sensor on those ambulances that will beep if the clearance is too low for the vehicle.

"an ambulance found itself in a one-vehicle collision" ... gee, and I bet it didn't even know it was lost. I hope its humans came and retrieved it quickly before it was able to do any more damage to itself.

Especially freakish accident where the emergency vehicle responding is involved in a mishap and crew sent to hospital for treatment. Wow, hate have to explain the circumstances surrounding this accident or be interesting reading of the report.
