A visitor from Texas drowned in Maui's Kaanapali shoreline waters on Monday morning, according to police reports.

Patrice Smith, 67, of Denton, Texas, was found unconscious floating face down in the ocean about 25 feet from shore.

Police said officers received an emergency call at 9:22 a.m., asking for emergency help at the Mahina Resort.

Smith was pulled out of water and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was applied until emergency medical personnel arrived, Maui police said.

She was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
