A Honolulu fire investigator is trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed an abandoned house in Maili Saturday, shortly after witnesses saw someone inside.

Honolulu fire Capt. David Jenkins said firefighters were dispatched to the two-alarm fire in the 87-100 block of Hila Street at 12:29 p.m. They found the home already three-quarters involved.

He said about 35 firefighters from eight companies extinguished the blaze by 1:17 p.m.

No other buildings were damaged, and no one was hurt.

Jenkins said witnesses reported seeing someone inside the single-story structure before the fire started, but no one was found after firefighters arrived.

A damage estimate was unavailable.
