Waters off D.T. Flemming Beach on Maui were brown with storm runoff Sunday.

The Department of Health has warned residents and visitors to stay out of waters contaminated with storm runoff.

A brown water advisory was issued for waters off Maui, Lanai and Molokai.

The public has been advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff because of the danger from overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.

Turbid water runoff has also been known to attract sharks because of dead animals being washed into the ocean.
