Firefighters used a helicopter to rescue a 27-year-old woman who injured her shoulder Sunday afternoon while hiking with her husband on Waahila Ridge, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

The call for help came at 2:04 p.m. and Fire Department personnel got to the trailhead by 2:20 p.m. then hiked in, reaching the injured woman at 2:56 p.m., according to Capt. David Jenkins, the Fire Department’s spokesman.

She was treated at the scene and transported off the mountain by Fire Department helicopter Air 1, which landed at Kanewai Park, where the patient was transferred to Emergency Medical Services, he said.

The Waahila Ridge Trail starts at the Waahila Ridge State Recreation Area and climbs up the ridge between Manoa and Palolo valleys, offering spectacular views. It is considered moderate to difficult.
