Police investigating armed robbery in Waipio Valley

Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in solving a May 25 armed robbery in Waipio Valley.

Police said a man who drove a dark Jeep Wrangler stopped a 54-year-old Florida man who was walking up Waipio Valley Road at 3:30 p.m. May 25.

The man approached he visitor, allegedly pointed a shotgun at him and demanded his backpack, police said.

The visitor refused to give him his backpack, but handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect got back in the Jeep and left in the mauka direction.

He is described as 5 feet 7 inches, 190 pounds, with brown hair, and was seen wearing multicolored shorts.
