Police reclassify Big Island shooting as murder

Hawaii County police have reclassified an attempted murder case to murder since the victim in a July 3 shooting died over the weekend.

Todd Shaver, 52, died 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Kona Community Hospital, police said.

Monte Moreau, 44, of Honaunau was charged July 5 with second-degree attempted murder.

Police found Shaver July 3 with a gunshot wound to his abdomen on the 85-5300 block of Highway 11 in Honaunau.

Fire rescue personnel transported him to the hospital in critical condition.

Police arrested Moreau at the scene.
