Honolulu culinarians win national acclaim

An executive chef for the U.S. Navy and a chef instructor at Kapiolani Community College were honored at the just-concluded American Culinary Federation national convention.

Brandon Parry, executive chef for the U.S. Navy Honolulu and a member of the ACF Honolulu Chapter, was among several executive chefs and food industry professionals given a Cutting Edge Award, which is presented to culinarians in recognition of their leadership and service to the profession.

Gale O’Malley, KCC pastry chef instructor and ACF Honolulu Chapter member, won the Joseph Amendola Award which is presented to a Pastry Chef or Master Baker by the ACF. Each year’s recipient has devoted his or her career to their profession and to the mentoring of young, future pastry chefs.

The awards were presented as part of the ACF National Convention in Kansas City, Mo., staged from Friday through Tuesday.
