The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the man shot Wednesday by a police officer in Waikiki died of gunshot wounds to the chest.

The manner is homicide, the Medical Examiner’s Office found.

The man, identified as Richard Nelson of Honolulu, had a blood alcohol level of 0.206, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Police said the man failed to comply with the officer’s commands to get out of the car, and instead attempted to hit the officer with a car.

Police opened a first-degree attempted murder case against Nelson after he died.
