The state's largest largest shopping center and other major malls will not open for business on Friday due to Hurricane Iselle, center officials announced Thursday.
In announcing the Friday closure of Ala Moana Center, General Manager Francis Cofran said, "Our primary concern is the safety of our customers and employees."
"We are working closely with government agencies and emergency personnel to assess the situation and prepare for the storm," he added.
Both Pearlridge Center in Aiea and Kahala Mall Center in East Honolulu announced they would not open for business Friday, Aug. 8, due to Hurricane Iselle.
Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki announced that it would delay opening Friday until 2 p.m.
For the most part, shopping centers announced plans to reopen for normal business hours Saturday morning, pending weather conditions.
Kahala Mall officials will continue to monitor storm activity "and adjust the mall schedule as deemed necessary," a mall spokeswoman said.
