Walgreen Co. closed stores in Hilo on Hawaii island and Lahina on Maui due to impending Hurricane Iselle.

In addition, Foodland is shutting early some of its Hawaii island locations “to ensure the safety of our employees and customers.” The stores include Foodland Kea’au and Foodland Mauna Lani, as well as Sack N Save Hilo and Sack N Save Puianako and Sack N Save Kona and Foodland Waimea, closing at 6 p.m.

Walmart closed its Hilo store Thursday at 3 p.m. and will shut down the Kona location at 5 p.m. It is monitoring an outlet in Kahului on Maui, which normally closes at 9 p.m. “out of an abundance of caution so associates that have to work in store can take shelter from the storm,” said Walmart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan based in Arkansas.
