Hurricane, 2 typhoons and storm bringing surf to all shores

A hurricane, two typhoons and a storm in the southern hemisphere are generating plenty of waves for surfers on all shores Monday morning.

A high surf advisory is in effect for east-facing shores of most islands because of 5- to 8-foot waves generated by Hurricane Julio. That swell will gradually shift to north shores as Julio continues its northwesterly track.

Meanwhile, Genevieve, which passed south of the islands last month, reformed into a typhoon and is sending waves to west shores. Genevieve’s swell is reinforced by waves from former Typhoon Halong in the Northwestern Pacific. Halong came ashore as tropical storm in Japan on Sunday.

South shores are seeing a swell from storms near New Zealand and, possibly some wrap from the west and east swells.

Another storm may bring a larger south swell this weekend.

Waves on north shores have 4- to 7-foot faces; south and west shores are getting 3- to 5-foot surf.

The surf should stick around through Tuesday.
