Big Isle police arrest inmate who failed to return from furlough

Hawaii County police Thursday arrested an inmate who failed to return while on a work furlough pass.

Sean Duyser, 46, of Kailua-Kona was reported missing from the Hale Nani Work Reintegration Center in Hilo about 3 a.m. Thursday. Police said he was arrested in Hilo about 11 a.m.

Duyser was serving 60 days for third-degree theft. He was supposed to be released on Oct. 2.  Duyser will face an additional escape charge, which has a penalty of up to five years in prison, officials said..

Hale Nani is a community-based reintegration program located five miles from Hawaii Community Correctional Center.
