Hawaii loses to Toyota Auto Body in volleyball exhibition

Freshman hitter Kalei Greeley put down a match-high 16 kills and junior hitter Tai Manu-Olevao had 10 kills and 10 digs but it was not enough as Hawaii fell to Toyota Auto Body 27-25, 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 15-10 in an exhibition volleyball match Wednesday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Junior middle Olivia Magill added 11 kills and senior middle Kalei Adolpho nine kills with no errors on 17 swings for the Rainbow Wahine. Senior libero Sarah Mendoza had 18 of the team’s 74 dogs as Hawaii used 15 of its 16 players. 

Sitting out against the Japanese pro team was sophomore hitter Nikki Taylor, who missed the first seven matches of the season with a hyper-extended elbow.

Hawaii (6-3) finishes out nonconference play Friday and Saturday with 7 p.m. matches against Northern Arizona.

Toyota Auto Body was led by Rika Kawashima’s 14 kills and 14 from Aya Takeuchi. The Queenseis finished with 88 digs, 21 from libero Kaori Nakamura.
