The Kauai Department of Water has issued a water conservation request for the Hanalei area as DOW crews work to repair a transmission line leak.

Residents and businesses in the area are asked to limit water consumption to essential uses only.

Princeville Utilities Co. is providing water to residents while the repairs are being completed. Users are being told to expect low water pressure in the meantime.

Essential water needs include cooking, bathing and toilet flushing. Residents are asked to refrain from car washing, to turn off automatic sprinklers and outdoor irrigation systems, and use water wisely indoors and outdoors.
