NOAA's GOES-West satellite captured an image of the smaller, fading former Tropical Storm Rachel and the large developing System 90E in the Eastern Pacific early Tuesday morning.

MIAMI >> The U.S. National Hurricane Center says former Hurricane Rachel is now a tropical depression and is forecast to keep weakening over the Pacific off Mexico’s coast.

The storm’s maximum sustained winds early Tuesday decreased to 35 mph and Rachel is no longer a tropical storm. Rachel is expected to become a remnant low later in the day.

Rachel is centered about 485 miles west of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and is stationary with a slow westward to west-southwestward motion expected over the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center is watching another weather system south of Rachel, near Acapulco, Mexico, that is expected to intensify into a tropical depression and bring heavy rain to Mexico.
