Hawaii County authorities charged with assault one of five suspects arrested for allegedly attacking a 43-year-old man in the driveway of his Hilo home.

The man reported six to seven males jumped him in his driveway at about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, then repeatedly punched and kicked him, causing him to fall to the ground. He received injuries to his head, knees and feet.

The suspects fled on foot, but police found them a few minutes later hiding behind a church.

Police arrested three boys and two Hilo men, Beliver Engilo, 20, and a 19-year-old, who was released Wednesday pending investigation.

The boys were released to their parents’ custody.

Engilo was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $10,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

Engilo was also arrested on a bench warrant for a grand jury indictment for kidnapping, terroristic threatening, unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a minor and two counts of abuse of a family or household member.

His bail was $17,000 on those charges.
