HONOLULU (AP) >> Hawaii Public Radio has completed its fall fund drive by exceeding a $1.03 million goal.

The station says the drive ended Thursday morning after raising $7,131 more than the goal amount. The station says it’s a record-breaking amount raised during one of its semiannual pledge drives.

The drive had been suspended last week on what was supposed to be the 10th and final day of the drive. But the station was nearly $232,000 short of its goal.

The campaign resumed for two days starting Wednesday.

HPR President and General Manager Michael Titterton says not reaching the fundraising goal last week seems to have illuminated for more listeners how essential they are in making public radio possible.

The next on-air fund drive is planned for April.
