The lava flow picked up in activity and advanced about 30 yards toward Pahoa since Monday, the first advance since the flow stalled over the weekend, Hawaii County Civil Defense said after an overflight Tuesday.

In addition, a breakout of lava southeast of the main flow, advanced about 125 yards, officials said. The breakout has been moving about 80 yards a day and could pass the front in a day or two, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists said.

The flow has also widened and other small breakouts are scattered across the flow about 1.2 miles upslope of the front and near he area where lava first entered an underground crack.

The flow front remains about .6 to .7 miles from Apaa Street  near the Pahoa Transfer Station on the outskirts of town.

The lava activity is not an immediate threat to homes and no evacuations have been ordered.
