Y. Hata & Co. Ltd. has purchased Lihue-based Koa Trading Co., a wholesale food distributor.

“Koa Trading Company has worked with Y. Hata & Co. for two generations,” said Koa Trading Company President, Peter Yukimura, in a statement. “Y. Hata is an exemplary locally-owned and operated company, and I am confident that this will be a positive transition for Koa Trading.”

Koa Trading was founded in 1938, while Y. Hata was founded in 1913. Both family owned companies had done business with one another over the years.

“We are proud to be acquiring Koa Trading Company,” said Russell Hata, Y. Hata chairman and CEO, in a statement. “We intend to honor its history and service to the Kaua`i community while growing the company for the future.”

Terms were undisclosed for the deal, which is expected to close in January.
