Hilo Police: Boy, 16, is second suspect in machete attack

A 16-year-old boy is in the custody of Family Court after he was charged with terroristic threatening following a fight in Hilo where a 21-year-old man was struck in the neck with a machete, police said Wednesday.

He is the second person arrested and charged following the fight Oct. 18  on the 400 block of West Kawili Street.

Atkinson Nakashima, 21,  of Pahoa, is charged  with attempted second-degree murder on Oct. 19. Nakashima was being held on $50,000 bail. Police arrested and charged the 16-year-old boy on Oct. 19

The victim, a 21-year-old Hilo man, was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition with a neck injury. He has since been released from the hospital.

 Hilo police said the victim was attempting to break up a fight between a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy when Nakashima allegedly attacked him.
