Prosecutors from across the state gathered at the Kauai County Emergency Operations Center last week for a two-day training session on the prosecution of domestic violence cases.

The training featured presentations from each of the four county prosecutor’s offices in Hawaii, as well as the state Attorney General Office, the Kauai Victim/Witness Program and the Kauai Police Department.

More than 40 deputy prosecutors, deputy attorneys general, victim/witness counselors, police officers, and sex assault nurse examiners attended the training.

“We’re very excited to have trainers and attendees from across the state participating in this effort to increase our skillsets in litigating these challenging cases,” said Kauai Prosecutor Justin Kollar.  “We’re grateful to have incredibly experienced trainers sharing their knowledge with the next generation of career prosecutors.”

The training was presented by the Hawai’i Prosecuting Attorneys Association and funded through grants from the federal Stop Violence Against Women Act as administered by the state Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division.
