Former University of Hawaii men’s basketball coach Riley Wallace says he would be willing to talk to the school about returning as an interim head coach.

UH announced earlier Tuesday that head coach Gib Arnold has been relieved of coaching duties after four seasons and will be terminated.

Wallace, who is celebrating his 73rd birthday today, said he has not been contacted by UH but would consider the position on a temporary basis until a new head coach could be hired.

With Arnold and assistant Brandyn Akana out, only Benjy Taylor and Senque Carey remain as coaches.

Wallace is the school’s winningest men’s basketball coach, having gone 334-265 in 20 seasons (1987-88 through 2006-2007).

“It is something I would look at if they are interested in me,” Wallace said.

Wallace splits his time between Hawaii and Las Vegas, where he works for Boyd Gaming.

“Joan said it would be fine to go,” Wallace said, referring to his wife.
