Liberia official says there’s ‘Good progress’ against Ebola

MONROVIA, Liberia >> Liberia’s assistant minister of health says he agrees with a World Health Organization analysis that the rate of transmission of Ebola appears to be slowing in the West African nation.

Tolbert Nyenswah says the numbers of bodies officials are picking up off the street is decreasing, as are lab-confirmed cases of Ebola. Nyenswah said late Wednesday good progress is being made but that it’s too soon to celebrate.

The World Health Organization said Wednesday that the rate of Ebola infections in Liberia appears to be declining, perhaps by as much by 25 percent week over week.

So far, more than 13,700 people have been sickened in the outbreak, which has hit Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone hardest. More than 6,500 of those are in Liberia.
