A weakening front moving over the islands is bringing cloudy conditions and an increased chance of rain and could make for a damp Halloween for trick-or-treaters.

The forecast calls for increasing showers and breezy tradewinds through Friday, with windward showers continuing through the weekend.

There’s a slight chance of thunderstorms on Kauai Thursday afternoon.

For Halloween, National Weather Service meterologist Ian Morrison said: “Windward (areas) are going to be showery for most of the evening. For town-side, there will be some passing showers.”

There could be “brief bouts” of heavy rain, Morrison said.

Kauai and Oahu should get most of the rains as the front stalls near Oahu and dissipates on Friday. Lingering moisture will likely bring windward and mauka showers, with occasional leeward showers through the weekend.

The forecast for southern shores of Oahu, including Honolulu, calls for a 50 percent chance of rain Thurday afternoon, a 70 percent chance of rain Thursday night and Friday and a 50 percent chance of rain Halloween night into Saturday.

Breezy northeast to easterly tradewinds of 10 to 20 mph are expected through Saturday.

The tradewinds, along with wrap from a north swell, prompted a high surf advisory for east shores. Surf of 6 to 9 feet, with locally higher sets is forecast for shores with a northern exposure through Friday. North shores should see 6 to 10 foot surf with higher sets and west shores are expecting 4 to 6 foot surf, lowering to 3 to 5 feet Friday.
