The 42-year-old Waianae man who was killed when his truck was hit by a sport utility vehicle Wednesday night has been identified as Patrick Mantanona.

The cause of the death was blunt force injuries to his body, the medical examiner’s office said Friday.

Police said Mantanona was driving out of a gas station and onto Farrington Highway near Hookele Street in Maili at 8:45 p.m. when an SUV driven by a 26-year-old Waianae woman struck his Toyota truck.

Paramedics treated Mantanona and a 53-year-old male passenger and took them to a hospital, where Mantanona died, police said. His passenger was reported in serious condition. An ambulance also took the SUV driver to the hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
