Crews contain Hawaii island landfill fire
A fire in the green waste site at Puuanahulu Landfill was contained on Sunday and will be allowed to burn itself out, according to Hawaii County’s Department of Environmental Management.
The site is located along the east side of Queen Kaahumanu Highway, just south of the Waikoloa Beach Drive intersection.
Department officials said there is no threat of the fire expanding.
Smoke conditions are varying and motorists in the area are advised to drive with caution.
