Man indicted on manslaughter charge in Maui pedestrian’s death

Maui police arrested a 33-year-old Wailuku man Friday in connection with the traffic death of a 51-year-old woman in 2013.

Anthony Souza IV was indicted on charges of manslaughter, first-degree negligent homicide, accident involving injury or death, operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor and excessive speeding.

According to police, Souza was operating the pickup truck that struck Roselie Miller as she was walking in a bicycle lane on Honoapiilani Highway on Dec. 23, 2013.

In a statement released on Friday, Sgt. William Hankins said the arrest was “the culmination of hundreds of hours spent reconstructing the crash by highly trained crash investigators of the Maui Police Department Vehicle Homicide Section.
