Rescue crews respond to distressed boaters off Maili Beach Park

Fire rescue personnel responded to a distress call for occupants in a 20-foot boat anchored a quarter mile off Maili Beach Park Monday morning.

The fire department received the distress call at 7:25 a.m. and responded with emergency units, including its helicopter, 15 minutes later.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory at shortly after at 4 a.m. for north facing shores which will stay in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
