Tommy Waters said he will file a challenge in Hawaii Supreme Court, Monday, to the election results for the Honolulu City Council Fourth District Seat.
Honolulu City Council candidate Tommy Waters is challenging the results of the Nov. 4 election that left him losing to Trevor Ozawa by 41 votes.
Waters told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that he is filing his challenge in Hawaii Supreme Court Monday afternoon.
The initial day-after results showed Ozawa with a 47-vote win, but a final summary report issued but the Office of Elections last Wednesday showed a 41-vote difference. He pointed out that the final summary report released last Wednesday added 17 votes to the initial total — four for Ozawa, nine for himself and four blank ballots.
Waters said he wants all 4,455 remaining blank votes to be recounted to ensure they were counted correctly.
Monday is the deadline to file a protest. Ozawa is scheduled to take office the first week of January.
Ozawa bested Waters for the Council Fourth District seat, representing East Honolulu, which was left without an incumbent when Stanley Chang chose to forego a reelection bid to run for Congress.
