Matson saw its earnings dip 10 percent to $18.1 million, down from $20.1 million. Matson containers in the shipper’s terminal at Sand Island.

Shippers using Matson Inc. for service to or from Hawaii will be paying an average 5.4 percent more.

The company announced Tuesday that rates will increase by $225 per westbound container and $110 per eastbound container, effective January 4.

The company will not adjust its terminal handling charge, according to the announcement.

“The adjustment is consistent with our longstanding philosophy of implementing modest, incremental increases as necessary to maintain the highest levels of service, and is identical to increases implemented in 2012, 2013 and 2014,” said Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services, in a statement.
