A large northwest swell has prompted weather officials to expand a high surf advisory for most islands.

The affected areas include the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

Surf along north-facing shores is expected to reach up to 10 to 15 feet, while the west-facing shores of Kauai can expect waves of 8 to 12 feet, forecasters at the National Weather Service said.

The advisory is posted through 6 a.m. Wednesday.
