Maui firefighters rescued a 57-year-old California tourist Wednesday after the man fell at Twin Falls on the island’s north shore.

Firefighters were dispatched about 12:30 p.m. and hiked to the man just above the fourth waterfall, a Maui Fire Department release said.

The man had fallen from a standing position on an uneven trail and complained of back and hip pain, the release said.

Firefighters carried the man to a clearing where rescuers picked him up with a helicopter and took him to a landing zone.

The man, of Saratoga, Calif., was taken in stable condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
