LAHAINA » Third-ranked Arizona outlasted No. 15 San Diego State in a bruising battle of wills, 61-59, to claim the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational title on Wednesday at Lahaina Civic Center.

Tournament MVP Stanley Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Wildcats (6-0) extended their recent mastery over the Aztecs. Arizona defeated SDSU in last season’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, as well as the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic championship in Honolulu.

UA prevailed despite shooting only 37.5 percent from the field.

Winston Shepard and Trey Kell scored 14 points apiece to lead SDSU (5-1).
