Winter swells bringing big surf, prompt advisories

Two strong swells will continue to deliver high surf to the north-, west- and east-facing shores of all islands and have prompted weather officials to issue high surf advisories.

The advisory for the east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and Hawaii island is in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday. The advisory for the north- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau, and the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui is in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials at the National Weather Service are forecasting 10- to 15-foot surf along north-facing shores and 5- to 8-foot surf along east-facing shores, rising to nearly 15 feet Tuesday night through Wednesday.
